Reflective vests are standard fare most places outside the US. EASA has a fit if they're not worn in Europe.

Even in Afghanistan, commercial crews and personnel on the ramp are expected to wear them, though much like reflective belts on base, I always thought that was a relatively poor idea.

When I first arrived in Mosul (Iraq), I was directed to wear my reflective belt. I thought it a dumb idea, but one doesn't fight city hall over that sort of thing. The idea of wearing it to the flight line, then blacking out and going on night vision struck me as excessively foolish. One a sniper began plugging away into our location, and I decided mandate or no, the belt had to go.
