DF-
Don't need to preach to the choir on this topic brother.....and I think "SpecialTracking" touched on this earlier in another thread.
Most Pilot's conduct a 'proper' preflight. It's unfortunate, but it now appears that the pre-flt routines now include the galley area to procure the presence of our UPA provided 'crew meals'. If lacking, a call to ops to rectify the situation is obviously in order.....If all the above does not render the required goods....."No Foody-No Pushy".....Terminal here we come. I understand this aligns with your 7hr/< example.
When looking at the Long-Haul runs that you suggested, I honestly find the solution just as simple.....If your a Capt, you don't push till the meals come.....Period. If your an FO, you insist that your not ready until the meal(s) arrive. If the Capt
"pushes" you to go without the goods for some reason (have NEVER had this happen on L-H flight), a simple popping of the belts, and standing in the front galley should send a clear message to the CSR & the Capt that you're "really not ready" to go now till the situation is resolved.
It's been mentioned before, this is not a difficult avenue to take if the UPA required provisions are not supplied.

Agreed on several levels.....
There are
A LOT of things that should/could have been implemented at DOS.
