With our bases now only being ORD, DFW, MIA and JFK/LGA, our entire route structure is connected. Which means GENERALLY you will do "turns" out of your base but often times connect to another base through an outstation - either during the day or through an overnight. For instance, In one day you may do something like DFW-XNA-ORD-DSM. Then for the next day or so you may do ORD flying, DH back to DFW, or connect back to the DFW system somehow.
I did a 4 day trip that left ORD leg 1 day 1 and didnt return till day 4 last leg. It actually is nice sometimes to get out of the same flying pattern, see a bit more of the country and do some overnights you don't do all the time. It's always nice when ORD is getting hammered with winter storms and deicing SNAFUs, to be enjoy 80 degree weather in JAX.
DCA, BNA and RDU often times act as mini hubs, meaning you might actually not go to a hub after an outstation. For instance, something like ORD-BNA-DCA-RDU.
