Look at the regionals that fly 70 seat airplanes for essentially the same as other pilots get paid to fly a 50 seater. Category of airplane is pretty meaningless without the big picture of compensation.
Of course, according to the UAL MEC "prestige" of flying a 747 should count for something. The regionals have SJS, while these guys apparently have BJS.
Actual compensation has been deemed to be essentially equal between Cal and UAL on a fleet by fleet basis based on the most recent contract prior to the big sell of 2012. Good luck arguing w2 prior to that. CAL biased pay, UAL biased work rules, but end compensation has been already deemed to be mostly equal on similar equipment. Next argument.
OTOH, there is significant precedence that values widebody International flying and the substantial high paying/desirable seats required to man that operation. With the recent change (to respect and value longevity- I didn't write it, but it is absolutely in there) in ALPA merger policy, there is value in longevity. Fact is, ALPA can't have another Nic award. Bias who? Guess that will be seen.
