Then the public officials become the ones who can argue issues the best, instead of the ones who can beg for the most cash.
Very good point. I wish we could do it. But, the large PACs, corporations, political organizations, and lobbyists in general (read those with money to spend on their causes) just won a huge Supreme Court case that determined efforts to curb their spending was an infringement of their rights to express their political views.
