How can you say that a near miss would be a hit?? thats like saying "I nearly won the lottery", and your considering that a win?

That makes zero sense to me. A near miss is a near miss...as in you missed it. you didn't hit anything. Near mid-air and near miss are synonymous, except that near miss could also pertain to ground incidents.

"I nearly missed hitting that light pole with my wingtip." See what I mean?...you didnt hit anything...it was a near miss.
