I think everyone knows, h8rz included, that DL is one of the tougher places to get on with, or to even get an interview in the first place. And DL does hire some good doods (sup dawgs!). And doodettes (hi ladies!).

But all too often you hear someone complaining about how difficult it is, yet they haven't even applied, or updated in forever, and never went to a job fair or bothered to network internals or done a single thing "extracarricular" even the relatively easy and non time consuming things that still really stand out, or show up to the interview unprepared or wig out during the 5 minutes of "bad cop" which really isn't even that bad, etc.

The process is difficult and involved. But the process helps those who help themselves. There's also a personality component that, arguably, one necessarily can't really prepare for, but that they have a pretty good way of somehow measuring. IMO if you don't get why there's rapid "thread drift" much of the time and not just a linear string of cold hard business replies, then these just might not be the droids you're looking for.
