My father used to tell me how it was a brother/sisterhood of pilots but I guess that's with military where you had to protect each others' a$$! Now I suppose with regionals it's all about me...
My buddies dad retired from AA in the early 90's after 34 yos. It interesting to hear him talk about the golden days of the airlines. When all pilots made the same amount of money regardless of who they flew for. When it was a privilege to fly rather than a right and people didn't wear their pajamas on airplanes. We talked about deregulation and he almost went silent. The only thing he told me was that the "brotherhood" ended that year. It was no longer about the group rather holding on to what each individual had. He is now a consultant and has yet to see any pilot group sacrifice for the greater good be it major, cargo, or regional. The free market and competition has killed the profession in his eyes. I don't know, just food for thought. I recommend talking to the old guys about what it used to be like. Very enlightening.
