I think the only group of pilots that are going to be ^%$ssed off forever are the 05-08 l-CAL hires. No matter what the SLI outcome, their movement up the food chain is going to be slowed dramatically.
If they were bidding equipment outside of what their contemporaries were holding, yes they might be disappointed. The opportunities to cherry pick a junior bid will always be there. Under the cal scheme, they would see advancement into a widebody capt seat and maintain that position for many years if not decade.
Movement will continue, for everyone, for their entire career.
