You are right, though. You can't just walk into a fast food place etc and be like "I want to be a manager" and get it.
Actually you can if you have some kind degree. Just finished my MBA and I get emails from Walmart, etc all the time about coming in for management openings. Most just require a college degree, not any kind of experience. Some require a business management degree. Friend of mine had a degree in History and is in management at Walmart. He was hired straight into management with no retail background whatsoever.
