I can remember back in C2K reading the DALPA message boards. One guy was complaining loudly about how much reserve sucked, etc. Someone else chimed in, "uh, right now reserve is a pretty good gig and actually goes senior in some categories."
His response? "Well, something is wrong with a system where any pilot would voluntarily choose reserve."
UNbelievable.
More people are voluntarily choosing reserve now than they were before the TA. I'm typically going to work 3-5 days a week whether I have a line or am on reserve so personally I'd rather have better QOL (weekends off in my case). As another recently stated, if it means less money, so be it. Matter of fact, when asked by a friend of mine how I was liking the job before the reserve rule changes and the TA I told him that while I'd like more pay I'd rather have everything else remain the same than change it. Too bad we couldn't have left it like it was and gotten 20%-5%-5% (and kept what we lost in profit sharing). Seems with everything my predecessors gave up, and how we're told pilots are as valued as much as they say we'd be worth at least that. With profits every quarter, and records being set it would seem an easy case to make that we've earned it.
