I am sure most chiefs are more than thrilled to field unsolicited cold calls from from unknown prospective hiring candidates and aren't the least bit interested as to where you came across their number. As a matter of fact, I'm quite sure that is exactly how you get your name moved to the top of the list when the hiring begins.
Believe it or not, that is almost exactly how it works, and yes, the CPs are more than willing to take the calls. You may not know it, but the culture at Delta is a bit different than SWA. The make or break factor in the interview is the personality of the applicant. Delta doesn't do a sim ride because the theory is, if you get called for an interview, you already know how to fly, no need to prove it again. The more people in the company who can say, "This is a good guy/girl," the better. That is why if an applicant can get a pre-interview with a CP, the better off they are.
