They could make an offer, which is why the larger cabin AC went to the arbitration so quickly.

This type of stuff ALWAYS cracks me up.
Sure, UAL doesn't hire from UAX carries. So when DAL and AA start hiring, they can pick up UAX pilots. And in return, DAL and AA start hiring and they can pick up UAX pilots, but not hire from their own regional carrier.
It'll be mutually assured destruction at the regional feed level.
Is it hard to understand how asinine that "rumor" is? Never mind that the CRJ side of ExpressJet only has a small slice of UAX operations, while the ERJ side is ALL UAX operations. What is the company going to tell UAL, (get past the sarcastic humor and think LOGICALLY for a second) "you can hire a pilot, as long as he's CRJ". And in turn, go to Delta and say "you can hire a pilot, just not a CRJ pilot".
What is SkyWest going to tell UAL? "you can hire this pilot, he's SLC based and does mostly DelCon, even though he COULD fly UAX once in a while. DON'T hire this ORD/DEN/LAX based pilot, he flies UAX, even though he could fly DelCon, AE, USAir, and Alaska regional feed" etc etc etc...........

I doubt United would listen to that request anyway, other airlines could make the same request and then your pool of options gets pretty small. XJT represents over 4000 pilots, no carrier is going to restrict their options by that much.
Unless restricted by an FTA, an airline is going to hire who they want to hire, in the numbers they see fit.
