Been here 3 years and China is still "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma"......You can check your Western cultural norms and business protocols at the door!
The pay is darn good for Captains though, and earning in RMB beats USD. The air in Beijing will kill you, now more quickly than slowly. Shanghai is okay but I would take a job further West if possible. The Chinese F/O's are smart as heck and know the books better than we ever will but I don't think they could help too much in a crunch. Too bad they never taught them how to fly upside down and sideways - they are good button and paper pushers but not REAL pilots.
If you're a Captain with time in type, under 55 and looking to feather the nest near the end of your career, plus you want adventure and excitement, come on over! I would not commute. Find an Asian beauty and live local.
