I disagree with that because I think it is kind of a respect thing. When calling up an air traffic controller for the first time, I always say something like "Denver Approach, Good afternoon, Cessna 123...", and I always say "Good day" when signing off. As long as the rest of your transmission is clear, quick, and concise, it is ok to include a little respect. Controllers are a good asset to have; they are there to help me, and I like to pass on a little respect.


I liked the previous post about hearing some pretty funny things on the radio. Once a pilot broadcasted "seatbelts" over ATC, and I swear everyone else on the frequency responded "Yup, we got ours on." Heard many other funny ones over the year...
