Saves money. One training event instead of two (EMB to CRJ, then EMB newhire to replace.) OR... you could look at it this way: We are actually getting very close to being shortstaffed on CRJ captains. Hiring into the CRJ allows RJ FO's to upgrade and still keep staffing numbers relatively even, SkyWest can push through two captain upgrade classes in the time it takes to do initial newhire/transition training. Not to mention the mess we'll have when bidding begins for the E175. Anyway, it's a bit early to freak out, I can assure you there will be transitions offered at the same time we begin newhire training.

This is all good news; in seven years I've been through two training and hiring freezes and came on right after a third, and movement and hiring beats the alternative every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Don't worry if you're on the Bro, you'll get your chance. The news is very fresh, and the training department is still getting their ducks set up.
