I really hope this isn't true. The reason people put in the work, spend the time, and the money to earn a degree is precisely because companies like Delta require it. For that requirement to apply to all but a small group of pilots is well, just not fair. Getting TPIC is something that is largely out of one's control, especially at an airline, but not getting a degree is a conscious choice.
I agree 100%. I was very frugal getting my degree from a public school, and even still I'll be paying a few hundred dollars per month for at least the next decade to pay it off. One thought that keeps me positive about the whole thing is "Well, at least I'll be eligible to work at Delta (or other top-tier airlines) one day."
If Delta drops the 4-year degree requirement I'll be one step closer to thinking higher education is a
total scam. I already think it's a little scam.
