The age of a plane these days means almost nothing. It all depends on how much you spend on MX and the interiors. Since Glenn was only in it for his bonus money, of course our planes look crappy. Everyone on the CO side is forgetting, it's only money- and how it looks can have very little to do with how it performs. Any plane can look or perform like any other, again it's only money. And the bean counters determine the point where investing in old equipment gets more expensive than a new plane.

Put a new interior and paint on the outside, the worst plane in the world wouldn't matter to the pax. What we need is MX and interiors. That is where Delta is killing us. An old maintained plane can cost a lot less than payments on a new plane.

Once the Max and NEO's are out, you will see current generation planes retiring in droves even 737-700,800 & 900's, fuel costs are the exception to the above. Current generation 737's are not that much better fuel wise than our old 737-300's. The Max will change all that.
