Got a hotel the first night, and spent the second afternoon in the crew room sleep area. Can't say I was any more rested than had I J/S in on a Sunday morning.
Why would you let him intimidate you like that? Waste a whole day in MEM plus eat the cost of a hotel, all for what? The same level of restfulness you would have gotten coming in Sunday.
