Have you ever dined at Sneed's BBQ in Belton MO? Which is near the old Richard's Gebauer (SP?) AFB south of KC? or Aurthur Bryants in KCMO?
MEM ribs are good, but try the two places above. Sounds like you've never left MEM. Believe it or not, there is life beyond Poplar and Beale St.
