Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion.........as for MEM BBQ vs KC or Texas, let's just be gentlemen and agree to disagree. But if you are ever in KC........(actually Grandview or Belton Mo) you owe it to yourself to try "Sneeds BBQ".
It is an old farmer who opens his restaurant (an old converted barn) only during the warm weather months.
There are no reservations, they don't use plates and the parking lot is dirt and grass infront of the old farm house.
Everyone sits At big picnic style tables (in other words there are no private tables or booths).
The waiter/waitress lays down a big piece of wax paper in front of you and splats a scoop of beans and slaw on it.
They keep coming by with large cuts of BBQ beef brisket, Ribs, Chicken and Ham. Everything gets dumped on your wax paper.
Nothing elegant about it but it is the best BBQ I've experienced anywhere including MEM and I've had my share of Rendezvous dry rub ribs and Neelys and even corky's (which is overated)
When I think of BBQ elegance never comes to mind........come to think of it, nothing elegant about MEM either. Sorry, couldn't resist.
First, where do YOU live that you think is so hot? Maybe you should list the city so we can have fun poking at it too?
As for the BBQ, Memphis has a certain style. I am not sure that it is fair comparison, it is apples and oranges. If given my choice of ANY sort of bbq ribs, all of you can have your styles, I like the way they do them in Thailand better, and also Jamaica. Mexico also have some VERY good varieties of this type of food, and let's not forget Polynesia! So, you all can fight over your mid-west cities, (all of which styles are good, in their own way), and you can look for me somewhere in Southeast Asia enjoying REALLY good ribs!
