I flew the DC-10 (steam guages) after i flew the Beechjet (glass). yes it did take some getting used to, but its no big deal. I used to love tapping on the engine guages to get them to work when they got stuck ... anyway you get used to it after about 2-3 sims. i just got a kick out of the flight director in the DC-10 (you could see the wires that hold the flight director in place coming from either side). then from there had to learn to fly the C-17 (glass and HUD). That took ALOT of getting used to going from steam to that. Then coming back to the CRJ i had to learn to look down at the screens again and that took a while to get used to.

Its all relative. im a believer in that you can get training to fly ANYTHING. steam, glass, HUD, magic, whatever. Its trainable. if a 55 year old captain can train to fly a 777 then anybody can train to fly anything, regardless of the technology.

when NWA starts hiring again, some of you will end up being lucky enough to fly their DC-9's. Those are VOR only, no FMS. You think pilots are just going to roll over and quit flying when they get in one of those? of course not, theyll have to be "down-trained"
