To be fair, over the years if I was a very late addition and the plane was ready to push back and I had seat 94D in cattle class, at the very least I would write on the back one of my cheap-o business cards "Sorry for not saying hello, thank you for the ride, hope to return the favor one day" and ask a FA to deliver it to the flight deck... there's always time to be professional
