Most do the same here at Eagle. Even had an FFDO do it and only tell the FA. I wanted to see his creds, so I had him come back up to show us.
Good on you for checking the FFDO creds, however D2 pilots (AA and AE) in uniform are not required to make a visit to the cockpit, if that's what you are referring to. Otherwise it is still a courtesy.
