Captain decides this is an issue and calls a few people to see what the deal is. The FAA requires that they be able to operate the door to provide an exit for passengers and provide verbal instructions for using that exit. They are not required to do anything else, just operate the door and yell at passengers. ????
Did you see the pictures of those 90 pound Asiana gals packing passengers on their backs? There is no question that if that airplane had old grannies on it, a few more wouldn't have made it. I know we have some of the best FA's in the industry, but we do have some that need to hang it up and knit some crap for their great grand kids.
Maybe it has more to do with little to no pension and inadequate health care coverage.
