I'm a bit of the opposite. Even after years in my aircraft every little noise that is out of the ordinary still gets my blood pressure up. When it is loaded differently it makes different creaking noises during flare than when it is empty.
Her point is well taken about the flight controls (Reno crash). A bit of a stretch to imply this would automatically give more safety, but as far as I understand it this is one of the reasons Boeing has feedback to the control column and envelope protection (as opposed to limitation), in contrast to airbus philosophy.
I've always wondered if AF447 pilots would have detected some "mushing" if they had control feedback.
