35% of Delta's new hires will come from DCI and the usual number is higher than that. ASA's (yeah, old school) Chief Pilots are uber well connected at Delta, Charlie Tutt & Fred Lambert in particular. When Delta was hiring in 2007 Capt. Tutt was eating lunch with his former Delta co-workers at least once a week.

One of my interview questions was, "what would your Chief Pilot say about you?"

I said, "I saw him right down the hall, we could ask him." They laughed and said, "we already have, but we wanted to hear what you would say."

BTW - The Thunderpig was the F105. Capt Tutt flew F4's along side them in Vietnam. Don't know if he flew the F105, but many in his squadron did. If you see him, ask.
