I do remember - though I have to admit my x/cs in the Scooter were limited.

The only time I ever broke down was having a starter shear off in NAS Dallas (speaking of fields that no longer exist). Worst American BOQ I ever stayed in. One head per floor and no phone or TV in the room.
Thye were there on a x/c because the Q was better than El Toro's! Same type of accomodations btw.

No A-gear? As often as not in the A-4, long field bidirectional gear was option one in an RTO... the overrun gear was option two and Escapac was option three.
Most bases have gotten rid of the E-5 overrun gear too.
