Thanks CE. My Google Maps has a "Make Available Offline" feature that I use on a layover, because once I leave the USA, I leave my pone in Airplane Mode, so it will only use wifi in the hotels (free). I never get the roaming or data charges.
This is the way to go. Can DL detailed maps while in the US or hotel to a card or memory and no charges. Also works great when you know you will be in an area with sketchy cell coverage like ATL.
I have the whole city stored on my card.
