The bottom line is that legions of MBA's at the airlines are diligently working everyday to figure out how to reduce their costs. Pilots have to become cheaper than computers if they wish to remain employed.
Crashes lately have been solidly in the human error category. Eventually the weak link will be removed or minimized from the equation. Wages and working conditions will continue to suffer. Those of us who are 45 plus should escape the worst of it but if you are in your 20's you can rest assured that transport category planes will be fully automated in 20 years.
