Got the nod, was promised nothing in terms of upgrade, was told now it's 5 years + and it could be longer. I live less than 20 min from IWA and was told to expect a FL base and I should plan to move as schedules are not "Commuter Friendly." Everyone was professional there and very welcoming, HOWEVER, I was never winked at, promised the sky, or anything else. I know a "High Up" as he was my first officer on a 747 a few years ago and was praised by those that worked for him at their previous company (glad I listened to the advice "Never be a jerk to your FO...he/she may be your boss someday), also had a letter from a very senior Allegiant Capt. The idea of chasing down a major airline job for me is about last on my list of things to do, so I probably won't be starting over again in 5 years. I'm not in my 30's with thousands of hours of glass, no CFI, no 4 year degree (yet). I've heard for YEARS speculation of that "Land of Milk and Honey Pilot Shortage just around the corner" and sacrificed a lot for the "Love of flying." I just want to work someplace that isn't paying late, doesn't short my 401k, and doesn't send me to a war torn country on a 18 to 20 hour duty day...or longer (there's no limit to your duty day international). As for Union mention...none initiated by the company, but I did ask and got what seems a pretty honest answer. I hope to just come to work, get along well with people, learn a new airplane, find a safe place for me and my family to live, not worry if I'm going to get paid, and have a lot more time with my family. I get your point when you ask why would someone come here to make $41/hour. After being at my last employer for a long time, I asked people why they want to work for an ACMI spending countless days in hotels on the other side of the planet, fly planes older than them with cargo that can leave a HUGE crater, go into and around countries that hate us... for what that company paid. I guess you never know those answers until you're in their situation. I hope you all will be welcoming to us new-hires and help us learn. Again, this will be something entirely new for me.
