Just make sure you are not "listed" as non rev or jumpseat at the same time you "own" a seat for that flight. But if you canceled your revenue reservation and walk up to the gate for a Jumpseat, I can't see anything wrong with that.
I imagine that is still viewed as blocking a seat for yourself.. I'm not sure if the OP is speaking about jumpseating or a family member on pass benefits.. In either case, I would be very careful not to jeopardize the reciprocal agreement that your airline has.. Otherwise you risk ruining the flight benefits everyone has..
