Career advice
Greetings from the north,
I'm a Canadian skipper on the King air 200 with 800hrs, 21 yrs old, and a associate aviation degree.
Now my hours are still short, but my goal was to get into Air Canada or WestJet who usually hire at like 3000-4000hrs, ATP, MEI, Multi-crew, turbine, etc.....
However, since I just got my green card, I'm getting more interested in the big legacy carriers of the US, such as United, or American, etc.
I was also going to write my AA's here in Canada, but now I would need to convert my licence to FAA, so can I write my AA's and then Convert to FAA ATP or convert to a FAA CPL first?
I know many people from my company move onto Air Canada, Sky Regional, Porter, which are all Canadian carriers.
I want to know if United or American hire people with just King air time since it only weighs 12500TOW. I'm pretty sure the regionals like American Eagle hire King air time, but I've heard a lot of horror stories from US regionals.
Could I get into mainline United or American?
If yes, how many hours do they usually hire at?
and, anything else you think I should know?
Thanks in advance!
