I'm not sure what your deal is today.
When DAL went with Boeing instead of Airbus on the 739/321 order, Airbus said "fine- since you went with Boeing, it'll cost you $20,000 (or something high like that) to RNP certify each individual aircraft." Had we ordered airbus, certification would have been free, and the high cost is the reason for the delay in certification.
The fact that RNP is now happening is very telling of the company's intentions: an Airbus order. I welcome new airplanes... particularly new ones that don't take the skin off of my head, don't have screaming cockpit volume at any reasonable speed, and have room to put both pilot's bags plus 2 jumpseaters' bags.
