One would think, but appearances can be deceiving. Could have been a traumaric decelaration or lateral side to side like a group loop can do.

Even through the FedEx in Narita came to a rest on its back, the forward fuselage looks mostly intact. Meanwhile the Sioux City DC10 cockpit wasn't even indentifiable right away, simply a mass of metal and wires.

BTW for anybody that knows., the FedEx in Narita, I didn't see/read a report. Was the cause of death traumatic deceleration, smoke, or other? Just curious.
