If the government feels they have a need to interfere in a free market transaction, then perhaps they should subsidize the losses. Example: a fixed priced on jet fuel and subsidy of un-profitable routes. Hell why not just NATIONALIZE the airline industry and turn the whole dam thing in to a 3rd world nation mass transit system. We are not too far from this now. If the government has a duty to intervene in the free market, then friends, "it is NOT a free market". The ex- Soviets must be having the last laugh now.
That's crazy talk. Don't you realize airlines are supposed to offer $39 transcon tickets, not charge bag fees, provide everyone with a business class seat, free wireless, champagne & caviar & still make a profit? It's obvious that it can be done, & the airlines are simply gouging the consumer.
