Don't announcements always happen on Friday at 5pm, so management doesn't have to deal with the fallout.
Correction: Good news comes out early in the week (Tuesday). Bad news comes out at 1630 on Friday so they can hit send, run for the door, and deal with it on Tuesday when they actually sit back down to work and everyone has calmed down.
