Flown with tools from both sides, civ. vs. mil. No one side has that dept. locked up. However, at DL, the tools are minimized due to our hiring dept. They generally do a great job weeding through the PIA types. However, whenever I have a sideways looking moment with the guy/gal I'm flying with, he/she most often flew equipment which had a large crew in the military or came from a school that rhymes with fiddle. If they've done both, OMG!!
Goes something like this:
Air Force: "We
can't do that, it's not in the book."
Navy: "We
can do that, it's not in the book."
Marines: "
Huh?....What Book?"
Civilian: "
Dude,...For Real?!?,...screw the book!!
So says the stereotypes, which usually hold only a morsel of truth to them. I added the civilian part! Heard the branches description before many times.
Best of luck to all the guys interviewing soon. If you read our boards, we sound like a bunch of whiners, but it truly is the best airline to work for from top to bottom. The guys you share the cockpit are top notch. We are all looking forward to welcoming good people/pilots aboard, mil or civ!
