IMHO The video did a wonderful job articulating how automation and the way some instructors teach over-reliance has under some situations become counter productive to safety; the very objective of such automation. Taking this gentleman’s point one step further; I have observed, from both the left and right seat, many aviators who use these systems as crutches vs tools. In extreme cases there are many pilots who do not have the ever so important understanding of the pitch power performance relationship. I think this deficiency is responsible for the Colgan and the more recent Asiana accident. The automation and the industries large dependence upon it allowed and currently allows pilots lacking these basic skills to get through the 121 training environment.
