That's what they all told me and I spent almost two years commuting ORD to FAT, LAX and SFO with 8 months of that being on reserve. I don't regret it, but no matter how things normally are that's not what you should expect. Always expect the worst with the airlines. When they stop running classes being off seat lock is irrelevant.
I did easily make more money first year on the bro than I would have on the jet though.
Commuting that far sucks. I like that I'm higher in seniority for having done it but I wouldn't blame someone with a family in MSP for waiting for the jet.
