Gunship,
You mistake my motivations. I'm not a born again ALPA patriot, nor a beleiver in ALPA of the immaculate conception, or that the DPA is like some communist insurgency that threatens God, country, and the ALPA way. I believe it is the members fundamental democratic right to make the choice in who they want to represent them. We are all fellow employees, colleagues, and dues paying members until something changes.
If I thought that the DPA really could provide a better service I'd support them. I see absolutely nothing factual to support that premise. I see despite the imperfections, ALPA produces, produces, and produces a steady body of work that improves our QOL. In DPA I see a lot of empty rhetoric, deliberate misstatement of facts, selective use of context and anger. That's based on my own judging of the facts, not someone's talking points.
I frequently am less than star-struck with ALPA and send them a message also - I participate in the process of making it a better member driven organization and making my desires and concerns known in the form of resolutions, phone calls, attending meetings, legislative action alerts, and political action contributions - all the same things that would need doing with the DPA - from the ground up.
