C-130/Gulfstream 5 Pilot (Broomfield, CO)



The Research Aviation Facility (RAF) with the Earth Observing Laboratory (EOL) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in scenic Boulder, Colorado, seeks an experienced pilot to serve as Pilot-in-command or Second-in-Command of the NCAR C-130 and GV aircraft in support of worldwide research projects, which frequently necessitate airplane operations in turbulence, minimal instrument weather, at night, at low altitudes, over water and over rough terrain. Operations may be conducted worldwide from locations where living accommodations and medical facilities are substandard, and airplane facilities are limited.

Plans, coordinates, and executes all airborne research profiles with the knowledge and expertise to ensure both safe and successful mission accomplishment. Coordinates aircraft logistical support, ensuring appropriate facilities are in place to accomplish assigned mission requirements. Remains current and proficient in operating procedures for each assigned aircraft. Additionally, keeps abreast of all aviation-related rules and regulations that impact safe flight operations.

Requires four-year baccalaureate degree or equivalent. Must be a graduate of a formal pilot training program and hold a violation-free FAA Airline Transport Certificate with Multi-Engine Land Rating. Also, must hold an L-382 or L-100 type rating. Must hold a current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.

Requires 10 years as a professional pilot with worldwide experience. Must have 3,000 airplane pilot hours. Requires 1,000 flight hours as pilot-in-command in multi-engine aircraft over 12,500 pounds.

IMPORTANT: Must be (a) a U.S. citizen; (b) lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States; or (c) a protected individual as defined by 8 USC1324b(a)(3).

Requires expert knowledge of FAA Regulations and expert knowledge of all flight and emergency procedures relevant to operation of GV and C-130 aircraft. Must have skill in management of aviation-related resources and in organizational and administrative processes. Requires skill in problem analysis and decision making plus ability to conduct field programs with little or no onsite supervision. Must have ability to provide aviation related briefings on a variety of subjects to scientific audiences.

Gulfstream experience and Honeywell Flight Management System experience desired but not required.

Partial relocation costs paid per UCAR's relocation policy. UCAR/NCAR will not sponsor a work visa (e.g., H1B, etc.) to fill this position.
