Compelled to add my 2 cents

Trips/Scheduling:
There's always gonna unproductive trips, but our problem is our rigs are ineffective or simply don't apply in situations where they should.
-We have a 5hr per duty period rig, instead of per calendar day, which amounts to not very much in most situations. Our Pilot Values Committee (kudos to them for fighting the good fight) has "advised" the company to change it to 5:30hrs per calendar day (hope everyone has read the PVC's recent "PEA Guide"), but forgive me for not holding my breath on that "ask".
-We have an international override and 35% of our flying is to int'l cities (29 cities at last count). Sweet! Unfortunately, the policy says it only pays when a route check is required. Which would be 4 out of those 29 cities..
-We have a night override. And we sure have some flights that operate in that ol' Window of Circadian Low (0100-0500). But when you're doing the return leg of an all-night island turn, and the company has set the departure time at 0501 specifically to avoid paying the night override, and we've already been up all night, well that's just cheap and annoying and I would dare say the damage it does to morale outweighs the cost savings.
