S-UA has always had more reserves as we did not have the forced junior manning, jetway assignments and open time flyers that you had on the S-CAL side. The different contracts and work rules required higher reserve staffing on the S-UA side.
Work rules. Nice to have. My favorites: 9 hours behind door (we got) and 16 hours before a redeye (we did not get).
