"A potential contract violation was discovered during a recent review of ExpressJet CRJ health insurance data. You should be aware that our contract limits the percentage of health and dental premiums that a pilot is responsible for to 30%. Section 28.A.3. reads:

“A pilot will not be required to contribute more than thirty percent (30%) of the cost of coverage under the Group Medical plan and/or Group Dental Plan.”

A review of the 2013 PPO premiums shows that the pilots are paying 36% of the total monthly premiums. By our estimates, the pilots on the PPO plan are being required to overpay their monthly premiums by the following amounts:

SINGLE - $20.94/month
2-PARTY - $49.88/month
FAMILY - $62.69/month

Based on the current number of pilots enrolled in these plans, it appears the Company will have overcharged the pilots in the PPO $559,810 by year’s end. Perhaps what is most disappointing is the PPO monthly premiums actually went down from 2012 to 2013, but The Company assumed those savings and increased the pilots’ monthly premiums as well. The MEC is preparing a group grievance on the pilots’ behalf."
