I did not get into this business so I can carry the weight of the pilot group on my shoulders. I could care less.
I followed a narrow path in college and sacrificed while some of my friends were partying all the time and chasing tale. I got on at CAL in 2005 due to that work and preparation finally meeting a little luck and here I am.
Do I feel bad that a lot of my college friends just got bumped by a bunch of UAL furloughees, nope, they choose that path to delay their career progress while I always took the first regional upgrade and got stuck in bases that I did not want to be in, etc.
Justice is served and that is how it plays out....

I agreed with you in your original post but you are setting yourself up to fail. You dont remember, but in the early 90s there were a few too many COCKY pilots. Today their airline is either BUST or they are 2000 pilots behind a way too cocky 35 year old pilot. You didnt get hired at CAL because you are skilled, you were LUCKY. Plain and simple.
Your career is just beginning. Im willing to bet there will be many road bumps ahead. Be humble.
