That's your pilot groups' choice. I have worked under both systems. I prefer our system. I will say it is tough on reserve pilots. That is a valid point. It is nice to have a confirmed seat going to work. Good luck working this out. It sounds like your two groups can't agree to anything.
May I ask how senior you are at Delta? I'm guessing not terribly. I'm sure the "sign up" system is great for junior folks, but I think most of us are satisfied with our seniority system. I hope our (LUAL) MEC drops their request to change what has worked well for us all
