Ok, so here's something to debate over:
I'm considering putting forth 3 resolutions regarding election of ALPA leadership.
Currently, we have a system where our MEC chairs are elected by the reps, thus being one level removed away from the membership. Then, national leadership is a second level removed away from the membership. Additionally, all the committee types are appointed and not elected. I believe that can (and has in the past) promote a good ol' boys club or inner circle type environment that is a major cause of the DPA movement gaining so much traction.
I propose:
Membership vote for MEC leadership
Membership vote for committee chairs
This is more complex, but a representative membership vote for national leads. Since all the associations vote, I propose that for the x% proportion of our population that votes for candidate A, that x% of the MEC has to vote for that candidate. For y% for candidate B, y% (to the nearest integer) of reps have to vote for candidate B. Sort of an electorate type system.
Thoughts?
