Perhaps they'd like to try their hand at landing a heavy jet or crossing the big water. If only to say they did it.

And one more thing that puzzles me:

Maybe I've led a sheltered life but I've never experienced or quite understood the "yanking gear" epithet or the whole notion of first officers being somehow vastly inferior to captains.
Delta has a ton of guys who could easily hold captain but choose to remain first officers for a whole variety of reasons. And some of them make significantly more money than many captains.
I've been around here for many years (most of them as F/O) and I've never felt disrespected or somehow unworthy because I wasn't a captain.

There are no "gearb*tches" at Delta.
That must be a cultural thing from other airlines.
You missed the point. Commute to JFK to fly a MD-88? Good luck getting a wide-body anytime soon. Miss christmas and other holiday's with the grandkids? No I believe the top 100 are entitled to stay where they want. Some will take the leap, but say to they have entitlement issues because they don't want to go.... try walking a mile in their shoes before judging so negatively.
