It is common knowledge that the pax carriers will be hiring like crazy starting this fall. A person could be more senior at Delta etc. in a few months than what it has taken guys at UPS 7 years to gain.
Pilots keep saying that UPS is holding the furloughs hostage due to the contract talks.
If the express shipping business was in as bad a shape as some say new trucks would be at the paint shop and drivers would be going thru the hiring process. More furloughs would have been announced. It's not that bad.
But the pilot hiring picture probably is. This furlough at UPS will make them scrape for pilots when hiring needs are identified. Who wants to go to freight if you are at the tail end of a hiring ripple (can't really call a UPS hiring spurt a wave) and might worry about a furlough for 10 years or more?
